Long Leaf Park

Centrally located near South College and Oleander Drive, Long Leaf Park is a popular New Hanover County destination. The park offers baseball fields, tennis courts, a basketball court, an outdoor gym, a 1.55-mile trail, and much more.

Playground

The park offers a variety of outdoor recreational opportunities for all ages and abilities. There are six picnic shelters, a fully accessible playground, a Ninja Fitness Obstacle Course, and an off-leash dog park.

In addition, the park has a beautiful garden area with a pond, bridge, and gazebo that can be reserved for special events. There is also a 1.55-mile paved recreation path for walking, running, or biking.

During the summer, you can enjoy Wilmington Sharks games, the city’s Coastal Plain League baseball team. It’s a great way to watch top collegiate players fine-tune their skills before going pro. Ticket prices are less than Major League Baseball and tickets are available in advance.

Dog Park

A favorite local park for exercising off-leash, the dog park at Long Leaf Park (formerly Hugh McRae) offers separate areas for small and large dogs. It is fenced to keep dogs safe and has plenty of space for them to exercise and socialize with other pups.

The park is also home to baseball fields, tennis courts, a ninja fitness obstacle course, an outdoor gym, a playground, and a pond. There are a handful of picnic shelters and gardens for relaxing in the sun.

A short drive from historic downtown Wilmington and UNCW, the park has something for everyone. Besides the aforementioned facilities, there is also a 1.55-mile paved trail for walking.

Picnic Shelters

The park is a great place to relax and enjoy the outdoors. There are ponds, trails, and plenty of spots to sit and read a book.

There are two picnic shelters that can be rented on a first-come, first-serve basis. The McKenzie Picnic Shelter by the Miracle Field and Kiwanis Miracle Playground is also available for rental through ACCESS of Wilmington.

The park offers baseball fields, tennis courts, a sand volleyball court, an outdoor gym, a dog park, and a couple of miles of walking/jogging trails. It is a great place to bring the kids, have a family picnic, or just take a walk through the park. Here is another spot to visit.

Outdoor Gym

Whether you want to run, play sports or just relax in a beautiful park, Long Leaf Park is the place for you. Located in central New Hanover County, this large park is home to many different activities, including lighted baseball and tennis fields, a ninja fitness obstacle course, a playground, a splash pad, six picnic shelters, and a walking trail that encircles a 1.55-mile pond.

Baseball Fields & Tennis Courts

Long Leaf Park is a great spot for the whole family, whether you’re feeling sporty or just want to bask in the sun. It has baseball fields, tennis courts, a sand volleyball court, an equestrian center, a full-size lighted basketball court, and a Ninja Fitness Obstacle Course. It also has picnic shelters and a 1.55-mile trail.

Previously known as Hugh MacRae Park, the New Hanover County Commissioners voted Monday to change the park’s name to Long Leaf Park. The decision was based on the abundance of pine trees at the site.

The park features a Miracle Field, which has a special rubberized surface that allows individuals with mobility issues to play sports. Programming for the field is managed by Access Wilmington.

1.55 Mile Trail

A smooth, paved recreation path loops around the park. The full path is 1.55 miles, but there are shorter paths for those who can’t or don’t want to do the whole thing. There’s also a beautiful garden area with a pond and gazebo that can be reserved for wedding ceremonies or photos.

New Hanover County Commissioners voted to rename the park, formerly known as Hugh MacRae Park, and it will now be called Long Leaf Park. The old signs bearing the previous name were taken down and new ones will be installed soon.
